“To see far is one thing..going there is another - Brancusi
By the 18th century, in many cases, the
religious and allegorical connotations of still life
paintings were dropped and kitchen table
paintings evolved into calculated depictions of
varied color and form, displaying everyday
foods.
During the Revolutionary times, American artists
trained abroad applied European styles to
American portrait painting and still life.
In America, French trompe l'oeil paintings also
flourished during this period. My work reflects a
bit of my favorite American still life painters,
namely William Michael Harnett, and John
Frederick Peto.
